Am I The Only One That Thinks There Is Something Wrong Here?
A few weeks ago, Oldest Daughter came home from school very excited. She had received a PE (Physical Education) Happygram! Being out of elementary school for quite awhile, I wasn't exactly sure what a Happygram was, but it must be good news if it has the word 'Happy' in it!
I was very excited for her since she obviously did something great to deserve this PE Happygram. And as she is not the most coordinated or athletic gal, I felt that there was a bit more to be proud of since it came from PE. So I opened the Happygram to read why my darling daughter deserved this recognition. The explanation was fantastic and I was proud of her. But then I looked at what was also taped to the inside of the Happygram.....
Yep, that is a roll of Smarties taped to the inside of the Happygram. Maybe this is my hang-up, but I feel that a PE Happygram should not be doling out candy as a reward. This is a class that is teaching these young'uns how to be physically fit and enjoy exercise. Candy as a reward, I feel, is setting an unhealthy and confusing precedent. If you needed a reward to go along with the Happygram, tape a sticker or a deflated balloon to the card - this is a class of five-year-olds for goodness sake! Come on, help me out a bit educators!!!
