End of School Year
Summer is here!!! We are beginning our second week of freedom and I have to admit, my favorite part (so far) is the sleeping in!! True disclosure - I am not a morning person. I detest waking to an alarm and I abhor happy, cheerful people in the morning. My Littles have learned that morning hugs are about all I can handle for the first hour, or until I have had my first cup of hot tea. Now that we are slowly falling into our summertime rhythm, I have been able to find the time to catch you up on our end-of-school year activities.
Oldest Daughter started out the final month of school by participating in a school production of 'Going Buggy'. The play was performed for the parents with each of the 2nd grade classes singing songs about, well, different types of buggies. I regret to inform you that the video we took of Oldest Daughter dancing and singing was too big to include here, but I will share with you a cute picture of her looking like an ant.
A few short days later, Youngest Daughter sang in her preschool performance. Nothing is more fun than watching 4 and 5 year olds attempt good behavior while on stage in front of an audience.

Next up, Youngest Daughter danced as a mermaid princess in her ballet recital. She did an excellent job and even won a scholarship for the next year of classes. This video was taken by a friend backstage. Youngest Daughter is the gal on the end with the curly blonde hair.

Last but not least, Oldest Daughter performed two violin songs with her 2nd grade class. Here is one of the two songs.
Another true disclosure - I generally dread having to attend children performances. Not just my children's performances, but really all children performances. Now I know a few of you reading my revelation just gasped in horror at that, but I think I am not the only mom that feels this way. I just may be the only one brave enough to put that fact into print. I was secretly elated that Youngest Daughters preschool performance was on the same day and at almost the same time as Oldest Daughters violin recital, as it meant that I did not have to sit through a recital of second graders badly playing music (Handy Hubby gladly volunteered to be the parent representative at this function - he was quite looking forward to it, truth-be-told). To be fair though, I did feel guilt that I was not mom-representing as Oldest Daughter took to the stage. I may not be a fan of these performances, but I will always show up and cheer with mom-proudness at their accomplishments. And as I watched the video of the violin recital later on that night, I was pleasantly surprised at how not-bad the violin playing really was. JCMT
