This is Why I have Gray Hair

Image
She is such a cute and happy little girl.  But my Youngest Daughter has another side to her - she is very mischievous! I spend a majority of the day 'gasping' and 'running'.  Gasping because she has put herself in a pretty dangerous position and running to catch her before that dangerous place becomes her reality. I do scold her.  But how much does a 22 month old child understand?  Especially when she is so excited about her latest escapade, complete with clapping and squealing for herself. On occasion, climbing up something is replaced with climbing into something.... She also doesn't mind a bit of dirt and grime.... She is not all tomboy-ish exuberance.  S he is still a little girl that likes to dress up 'pretty'. My Youngest Daughter doesn't stop moving much during the day.  But when she does, snuggling with her mommy and giving her Eskimo kisses are two of her favourite things to do....

Cuticles

I have fantastic nails.  My nail bed is just the right width, my nails are smooth, very strong and grow quickly.  I have always felt that good nails were sort of wasted on me though, as I have never been the gal that felt it necessary to keep them pretty.  My nail grooming ritual was to basically keep them cut short.  Lately though, I have felt the need to paint them.  Not loud colours, just soft pale pinks, nude or glossy-shiny.  I'm not sure why I have felt I needed to keep them looking nice.  It may be due to being a stay-at-home mom.  Most days you can find me rocking the gym shorts and a t-shirt.  Maybe that's the reason - I need a bit of sparkle in an otherwise drab dressing routine. But this post isn't about my great nails though (you see how I keep doing that - bragging about my great nails!).  It's about one of my problem areas - my cuticles.  I have alway...

Happy Birthday Handy Hubby!!!

Image
Saturday, the love of my life, Handy Hubby, celebrated his 45th birthday.  2 Days Old It wasn't an exciting day.  He's not really into celebrating his birthday.  Never has been.  It's just another day to him.  A normal day, but with presents. Handy Hubby is gracious about tolerating my birthday celebration efforts.  This year he allowed me to make him his favourite cupcakes, Vanilla with Vanilla Buttercream frosting.  With sprinkles.  Though the sprinkles were really for Oldest Daughter.  Cupcakes, to her, really aren't cupcakes without sprinkles.  He hates sprinkles. Handy Hubby spent most of the day working in his garage.  Whatever he was doing involved loads of grease, sweat and at one point, a straw. His special dinner was Mexican food from a local restaurant.  Baths for the girls, then relaxing to a movie rounded out his special day.  Not too exciting,...

Fantastic Room Friday - September 13, 2013

Pinterest     Where to begin!  There are so many things I love about this space.  First of all, I love the baby blue shutters.  These working shutters are a colour that I would not purposefully paint on the exterior of a house, but in this case, they do help soften the look of the stone.  They make the home feel more inviting.  Second, I just love the ivy.  The way it climbs up and across the face of the home lends to its' old world feel.  It blends nicely with the stone, and the homeowners have done a good job keeping the ivy controlled.  Third, I love the two seating areas.  What a lovely place to have lunch.  Or just relax while lounging on the day bed.  And fourth, I love the trees surrounding the property.  In this picture you only get a glimpse of the trees, but enough of a glimpse to tell you that you are in the high country.  Meaning, that it is not too ho...

Breast Cancer Walk

Image
I would like to introduce you to a member of my family.  We call her Tia.  She is my Aunt and the family member I feel closest to.  She is a fabulous Great-Aunt to my Littles, and she is a breast cancer survivor. A few years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Through early detection, surgery, chemotherapy, sickness and tears, she was one of the lucky ones.  She survived this ugly disease, and every day she celebrates her new lease on life.  And every year, a small group of us celebrates her 'win' with her by participating in the breast cancer walk. It's our way of saying 'we love you and we know how important this milestone is to you'.  We are proud to do this with her each year as we know it's one more year she gets to add to her remission stats.  And we get to celebrate this milestone again in just one month.   October 13, 2013, the 21st Annual Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure will be v...

Football Mania

Image
The end of July saw the adults in my family experience a sports funk.  Soccer was on break, cycling was mostly over, football pre-season hadn't started yet and basketball had just finished up its' season.  Our major form of entertainment had left us high-and-dry. But starting last weekend, that all changed!  The adults are a happy bunch again!  Soccer started and Handy Hubby was in heaven getting to watch Manchester United lose to Liverpool (oh wait, was that me that enjoyed ManU losing?).  Thursday we were lucky enough to watch the NFL season opener.  Wasn't the most exciting game, but it didn't matter.  Football was back in the house!!!!  Sunday had four games to choose from (well, we didn't choose - we saw em all! And no, sadly we don't have the NFL ticket-though I am thinking that just may be overload!) and tonight is a Monday Night Football double header!!!!  Excitement!!! Handy Hubby and myself do engage ...

A Very Special Birthday

Image
Hi all!!!  In case you have wondered why I have not published any blog posts this week, it has been because my website has been experiencing technical difficulties.  Many of them.  On Tuesday, I sent out two posts.  One titled "Whew - What a Weekend!" and a second titled "A Very Special Birthday".  Some of you may have either received the first Tuesday post, or bits of that post, or nothing at all.  I have been working with technicians since Tuesday and they finally have me back up and running!  Can I hear a "Whoo Hoo"!  Apparently though, my second post was what the technicians classified as a 'dead publish', meaning I thought I published it, but really, my post just wanted to hang out in my drafts folder.  Since this particular post had a bit of meaning behind it, I thought I would go ahead and publish it anyways, even if it is a bit late.... ------------------------------------------...

Whew - What a Weekend!!!

Image
How is it possible that a holiday weekend - three days of freeness - becomes anything but free?  I may have taken a long blink, and during that blink, my whole holiday weekend zoomed on by me to become a fuzzy memory. Saturday, Youngest Daughter hit the latest milestone.  Well, I'm not sure that getting your first haircut qualifies as a milestone, but it is certainly a picture-snapping event in this house!!!  She was a trooper - not a single tear.  A little whining, but that  quickly turned to "why are you making strange faces at me Sister?", hence the reason Oldest Daughter was asked to come along for the ride.  So, Youngest Daughter started out with a bit of a blond white-man-afro and a terminal case of old-man-comb-over syndrome... During the haircut, I managed to snap several pictures of Youngest Daughter giving me the "I can't believe you are doing this to me and taking pictures of it" face....
