When the Time is Right

This is the life I was meant to live - at least today, but probably not forever, because if there's one thing I know for sure it's that as soon as things start to seem normal, a shake-down happens. I'm fine with that. It lends a certain air of adventure to life. – Shannan Garbar Martin, Flower Patch Farmgirl

This is a house similar to what I am currently living in. Well, this is a two-story house, and I live in a one-story house, but other than that they look similar. I live in what we Phoenicians call 'the Valley', which is just a fancy way of saying 'the Phoenix area'. Here in the Valley, it is hot during the summer, warm the rest of the year. Some winters we may experience two days of freeze in a row, which is strangely exciting, but kills all of our plants. I can say with all honesty that I really dislike living in the Valley. There are many reasons for that: the heat, the lack of discernable seasons, the citiness.

This log cabin depicts what is closer to my heart. Small town living, greenery, less heat, and the knowledge that my oldest daughter will finally understand the concept of seasons. Would this be my 'forever' home? Probably not, though if it was, I could live with that. But I look at this home as the family-rearing home.  It is the cozy home we raise our daughters to adult-hood, and then once the girls are gone, we are free to begin the next chapter of our lives.

The next chapter would ideally be 'retirement'.  Or, running a bed-and-breakfast in Normandy, whichever works in our favor at the time.  This house represents that chapter.  Yes, it looks a little overgrown now, but with some TLC and 'retirement time' on our hands, it could look like the french village home it so desperately aspires to be.

The last two houses are wishes. And all of the wishing I do will not bring them to fruition until the time is right. And there are no guarantees the time will ever be right. I constantly have to remind myself that I cannot put my life on hold until 'the time is right'. My life is right here, right now. In the Valley. Where my husband and two daughters are. Where my extended family resides. Where my daughters are experiencing the wonderful world around them, building relationships, gaining confidence in who they are.  I was meant to be here for right now. But, if and when 'the time is right', I'll be ready. JCMT
