Fantastic Room Friday - July 19, 2013

I hate to admit it, but doing the laundry on a weekly basis is probably one of my favourite chores.  But let's be clear, I still don't enjoy doing it.  It just is a little less tedious than vacuuming or mopping the floors.  Both of the girls like to "help" sort the laundry.  I hand the clothing item to the youngest, who then puts it in the wrong pile.  Then the oldest will take it out the wrong pile, hug the clothing item and then place it in the correct pile.  So, as you can imagine, the sorting part of laundry is a lengthy process.

I hate to complain about my laundry room as it is a definite step-up from my previous laundry room.  In the first house Handy Hubby and I owned, the laundry room was part of the carport.  It was part shed, part laundry room.  The whole room felt dirty, and heaven forbid I drop something on the ground!  It was also out of earshot, so out-of-sight-out-of-mind.  I had to rewash too many loads of laundry to count as I constantly forgot there even was a load.

My current laundry room is thankfully part of the interior of the house.  It is the pass-through room on the way to the garage.  It has the washer and dryer, a freezer, storage cabinets, cat litter box and cat food.  The top of the washer and dryer are also the catch-all place for all of the items we don't know what to do with.  So as you can imagine, there is too much furniture in a tiny room and it is cluttered and not tidy.

The pictured laundry room is everything I long for in a laundry room.  It looks clean and uncluttered, it has a sink, it has folding space on top of the washer and dryer, it has storage space all over the place.  With this laundry room, I might actually enjoy this chore.  Well, maybe enjoy is too strong a word.......JCMT
