Cuticles

I have fantastic nails.  My nail bed is just the right width, my nails are smooth, very strong and grow quickly.  I have always felt that good nails were sort of wasted on me though, as I have never been the gal that felt it necessary to keep them pretty.  My nail grooming ritual was to basically keep them cut short.

Lately though, I have felt the need to paint them.  Not loud colours, just soft pale pinks, nude or glossy-shiny.  I'm not sure why I have felt I needed to keep them looking nice.  It may be due to being a stay-at-home mom.  Most days you can find me rocking the gym shorts and a t-shirt.  Maybe that's the reason - I need a bit of sparkle in an otherwise drab dressing routine.

But this post isn't about my great nails though (you see how I keep doing that - bragging about my great nails!).  It's about one of my problem areas - my cuticles.  I have always struggled with them.  They are almost always ragged, I constantly have hangnails and they are known to crack and bleed.  Not only is this the case with the cuticles on my hands, it is also the case with the cuticles surrounding my toenails.  I know that my toenail cuticles could look better by getting regular pedicures, but as a stay-at-home mom with one income that covers four people, that is a luxury that I just can't indulge in often.  So I started experimenting with many products to help me with my problem cuticles.  After many fails, I have finally found one dream product that has worked like a charm.  Let me share my findings with you.

Sally Hansen products, I think, are pretty awesome.  The Sally Hansen line has several products that deal with just the cuticle, but this one, I felt, worked the best.  I found this cuticle gel at Walgreens for about $6.  Simple to use.  Shake it up, then apply it to the cuticle with the wand, massage it in (or not, works both ways) and within a few minutes it has completely absorbed into the skin.  It supposedly releases vitamin e and botanical extracts into the cuticle (for conditioning and hydrating the cuticles).  All I really know is that I put it on before bed each night and by the morning, I could see results.  Within a week, my cuticles were no longer ragged, I no longer had hangnails, and cracking/bleeding cuticles are a thing of the past.  This product is a must-have if you suffer with cuticle issues!  JCMT

  1. Coconut oil works really well too! I just cleaned out and old nail polish bottle and paint it on at night as well...
