The Holidays

2013 is coming to a close and this last month has been one of my family's busiest.  We are always so excited about the month of December, with its' hints of the fun promised - the real world "magic" we anticipate seeing in our children's faces.  But the downside of the month of December is that we sometimes forget to slow down and truly enjoy those moments.  Sometimes its' due to the sheer number of activities we attempt to shove into 31 short days; sometimes its' because, as adults, we forget to look for that magic, forget to close our eyes and just savour the gentle hums of the Christmas music.  But if we are lucky enough to remember the happiness of this season, we are blessed with picture moments worthy of sharing.  Here are a few, just for you.

Oldest Daughter once again danced as a beautiful ballerina.  I never tire of watching her dance.  Is she the most graceful?  No.  Does she sometimes forget her dance steps?  Yes.  Has she shown improvement in each of the performances we have seen her in?  Affirmative.  Does she make me so proud of her when I see the love of the dance in each and every step?  Absolutely!  And isn't that all that counts??!!!!

Our attempt at visiting with Santa failed miserably this year.  We tried twice, each time to no avail - the wait times were always longer than we knew Youngest Daughter would be able to handle.  So, we settled for Duck Dynasty instead.

Oh, and a ride on the merry-go-round......

December also allowed us the privilege of singing 'Happy Birthday' to Youngest Daughter as she turned two.  What a fun little party we had for her!  We had pizza,

presents,

and cake.  What more can a little girl want!!!

And then, finally, came Christmas Eve!  Oldest Daughter was excited about her new Christmas outfit as she got to wear her very first pair of high heels.  Youngest Daughter was excited as well, because she got to wear a tutu shirt that she felt made her look like a princess.

The grown-ups amongst us were happy for a completely new reason.  My brother (from here on out he will be referred to as Brother) joined us for the holidays.  It has been seven long years since he has graced us with his presence over a major holiday.  Needless to say, it felt like our family was complete this year.  Well, aside from my Dad not being able to join us due to sickness.  We were so close to getting the family all together.

We are now in the lull between Christmas and the new year.  2013 has been a good year for my family.  I look forward to seeing where the year 2014 will lead us.  But for right now, I think we all feel a little bit like this.......JCMT
