New Music Tuesday - January 13, 2015
My first New Music posting of 2015 finds me all over the place. All in a good way people; all in a good way.
My first song choice is by a group that I happen to love only because every song I hear from them leaves me feeling happy and refreshed, and this song is no exception. It is a bit on the long side but definitely worth a listen. A fitting start to the new year.
Nahko and Medicine for the People - "Budding Trees"
alt-J - "Left Hand Free"

alt-J is an up-and-coming group that I am hearing more and more on mainstream radio. I have mixed feelings about this. I love up-and-comers, always feel excited about their musical genius. The downside to up-and-comers is when that musical genius becomes regular rotation fodder on mainstream radio, which just means that too many people are now being exposed to that genius. Waters them down, diluting that genius (yes, I have just used the word 'genius' four times in one short paragraph). My theory may be a bit nuts I know, but I tend to devote to the fandom when the groups are slightly left of mainstream. Well, it's a good song anyways and worth a listen.
Ok, let me first point out that I am not a Beatles fan. I can appreciate several of their songs, but that is really as much as I can commit to - this is one of those songs. It makes me want to set my Ipod on continuous play and just sink into the lyrics.
I know, I know - I have featured this group before on New Music Tuesday. I try so hard not to duplicate groups as my intention is to introduce you to groups you may not have had exposure to. But today is the day for exceptions. It is a re-run of an already featured group, but a totally different song. I am claiming this song as my song of the year. If you read my "Word of the Year 2015" post (which you can read here), this song fits with it perfectly. 'Go With the Flow' and 'Let's Be Still' are two basic elements missing from my life that I so desperately need, want and strive for. This song is my daily meditation.
When songs were just stories set to music...
