Wrapping Up 2014

Happy 2015 everyone!!  It is so good to be back with y'all.  I have missed conversing with you as well as writing on this blog.  In my past month of silence, even though I did not write one single post, I had a few experiences that moved me in some way.  Those experiences made me want to share with you.  But instead, I shared with Handy Hubby and the majority of the time he just rolled his eyes at me.  Sometimes I deserve the eye-rolling (ok, most of the time), but other times I know my stories are bigger than that - I know that my stories need to go where they will be appreciated and understood by others of my kind.  And that kind is the person that can say "been there - done that!".

From the feedback I have been receiving over the past few months, you have told me that you love the stories and pictures of my families adventures.  I will continue to share them.  You have told me that New Music Tuesday is a feature you look forward to receiving in your in-box, so I will continue your introduction to up and coming artists, musicians that have been around for a century or two and songs that just make me want to pause and possibly hit replay.  Voyeurism into the home spaces of random individuals on Fantastic Room Friday will resume as well.  The two just mentioned features may not show up weekly, but I will make it a priority to blog about them a couple of times a month.  And the rest of the time?  Well, I am going to relax a bit and add things here and there that may be hot topics, could possibly be controversial or is just something fun to talk about.    I am so looking forward to the upcoming year!!!!!  But for right now, I want to catch you up on the happenings of my little family during the month of December.

Early in the month, the Littles met Santa.  The line was long, but the girls were determined to wait.  The ticking clock was helped by the fact that Santa hung out with a plethora of taxidermy animals in which the girls oohh'd and aaahhh'd over, as well as the giant fish tanks that caused them to squeal each time a fish larger than their own bodies slowly swam by.  Youngest Daughter asked Santa for a toy kitchen and Oldest Daughter wanted an American Girl.  They settled for a candy cane and this cute picture.

A few days after the excitement of meeting Santa, Youngest Daughter turned 3!  For months, she would tell me that her birthday was coming up and then she would count down her specific requests for the party.  Over those said months, her demands were so consistent that Handy Hubby and I felt compelled to oblige her.  The first thing she wanted were balloons (and yes, part of the request was for Frozen themed everything):

She wanted chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting and sprinkles:

One of our family traditions is that the birthday person is allowed to choose what they would like to eat as their birthday dinner.  The sky is the limit.  My birthday dinner is always elaborate with lots of moving parts, whereas Handy Hubby normally picks bbq anything.  Of which he bbq's himself (yeah, I'm not a great cook).  When Youngest Daughter was asked for her menu, I expected to hear 'peanut butter and jelly sandwiches' or 'pizza'.  No, not this child.  She asked for homemade lasagne.  Loves it!!  I took a picture of my dad's plate of Caesar salad, garlic bread and homemade lasagne (made by Handy Hubby), but one of my hidden talents is not food photography, so I will refrain from sharing it.

Youngest Daughters final request was that we all had to wear birthday hats.  So, keeping with the Frozen theme, tiaras all around!

Christmas-time with small children, what can I say?  It was fun.  It was magical.  Elf on the Shelf made the girls want to get up on cold, dark mornings to find her new hiding places; school activities aided in bringing Oldest Daughter into the holiday spirit; watching cheesy Christmas movies and listening to classic Christmas tunes; walking the neighbourhood to ogle others' holiday lights; tastefully decorating the inside of our house (and keeping Handy Hubby from garishly decorating the outside of our house); baking way too many cookies; badly wrapping presents and sending out holiday cards rounded out our month.  Through it all, Youngest Daughter was sure Santa was bringing her a toy kitchen and Oldest Daughter was getting an American Girl.

Instead, Grandma brought Youngest Daughter the kitchen (complete with chefs hat and apron from Papa and Sue Sue),

and Santa brought her a bike!

Santa brought Oldest Daughter an Our Generation doll (that looks just like her - dark brown hair, green eyes and a price tag that Santa can actually afford....), outfits and a canopy bed.

Looking back over the month, I will say it was quite enjoyable.  Exhausting, but the memories priceless!  Thank you to all the friends and family members that helped make it so!

Wishing you and yours blessings in 2015!  JCMT
